Travel The World | London
August 05, 2015Hello everybody.
Today I wanted to share the first passion of mine. Travelling.
I just love to discover new places, city's and culture's. It doesn't matter whether I go with my friends, parents, siblings or by myself. I am that kind of person who is incredibly lucky, when she took accidentally the wrong train and ends up in nowhere. The world is such a huge place and there will always be a corner you have never seen.
One of my recent destinations was London. Oh boy, is London a beautiful city! I've been there twice now, once in 2013 with a school exchange and the second time in October 2014. It was love at first sight, I can tell you. And now I'd like to share my impressions and opinions with you.
Our hotel was near by Hyde Park and Oxford Street, so pretty well seated. Within 2 minutes we could reach Paddington-Station and the other two mentioned places. Of course one of the first things we did was getting an overview of London. We headed directly to Oxford Street.
Oxford Street is amazing! It's basically a 2 kilometre long road with every shop you could possibly think of. There is a New Look, Lush, H&M, American Apparel, M&S, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and many many more. And of course many food related shops like Starbucks, McDonalds and KFC. (Although there are mostly found in side roads.) You can really go crazy in the shops and spend all of your money for clothes, make-up or just unnecessary crap. You can find literally everything you ever dreamed of. It's really crowded, busy and loud so always keep an eye on your valuables.
I think one of the most popular spots in London is Westminster. Not for nothing, in my opinion, because my favorite sights are all collected around here. Firstly, River Thames. Westminster Bridge. London Eye. House of Parliaments. Big Ben.
There are benches everywhere so you can rest a bit and enjoy the view (as long as you get a free seat).
Behind London Eye is a small Gift-Shop, Sea World and London Dungeon.
You also have the opportunity to start a boat-tour ending at Tower Bridge.
Speaking of Tower Bridge. I've also been there and it just looks fantastic. The traffic is horrible and again it is incredibly crowded but definitely worth seeing. The bridge itself is build in Victorian Gothic style. You can walk through the high-level walkway between the tower and have then a beautiful view over River Thames, nearby sights (like The Sharp, Gherkin...) and London it self. The special thing about the bridge is, that you can raise the bascules, so boats can still pass under the bridge.
The last thing I really liked was driving with the underground. The famous London Underground. In the beginning the system is kind of hard to understand, but once you got it you are totally fine. It is, depending on the station, the time and the line you are going, really crowded and people are running and power walking all around you. Before you get into your train check if it's the right line. Don't feel sure about it by the colour! (Once I did it wrongly, but luckily I noticed it two stations later).
You may find it hard to find the way to your train because of all the people. Sometimes you just get stuck in a crowd so always try to avoid huge piles of people and look for signs leading to platforms.
Most important thing: Always check if your valuables are still there!
I know that this is just a fraction of an incredible, colourful, diversified, multicultural city. But these where just the things I enjoyed most.
Next time I am there I will be doing more of it, but this should be enough for the first time to give you a general overview of some of the most important spots.
I hope you enjoyed this and I will see you soon.
Love, Paula Charlotte.
